Khingan foot (Ulanhot)

Herdsmen and hunters of the south-eastern Khingan foot, between the Taizhou march and the trench: remnants of the old Shiwei peoples and of the Xi and Khitan, speaking Mongolic or Khitan-related tongues.

They lie in the zone of the jiu units and the Onggirat's raids.

How things stand that morning

Quiet; nothing recorded for the winter of 1199-1200 in what we could read.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: Thin: later Mongol tradition places the Onggirat and Khorchin here; for 1200 only the ground is certain.

On the map: Rough outline; Jin prefecture boundaries are not fixed on any map we could use.
