Gurjaradesa

The Chaulukya heartland: the Sarasvati valley round Anahilapataka, the temple towns of Anarta (Siddhpur, Modhera, Vadnagar), the Sabarmati country (Ashaval and Karnavati, Dholka, Viramgam) and the Charotar and Khetaka black-soil plain to the south.

Wells and tanks water it; cotton and indigo feed the cloth trade; the Mahi crossings are the way into it from Malwa and the east. The name Gurjaradesa is the one the Chaulukya inscriptions use for the realm, and it has moved south from the older Gurjara country round Bhinmal.
