Town · The Tibetan lands: houses, monasteries and clan chiefs, with no king · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Xiahe

The upper valley of the Daxia river, high grass and barley terraces.

The great monastery of Labrang is a foundation of 1709 (recalled) and there is no town; the gazetteer's 'Xiahe' is a different place, so this point carries coordinates. The North China sheet anchors Xiahe as Tibetan; we follow it.
