Sravasti was the Buddha's city of Kosala and a great monastic site; the Jetavana mahavihara was given villages by a Gahadavala king (Govindachandra, about 1130; unchecked) and the ruins of Saheth-Maheth remained a Buddhist place into the Gahadavala period.
By 1200 the monasteries are abandoned or shrinking, the site lies in Bhar and Tharu forest country, and no lord is named.
