Kupang bay

The sheltered bay at the south-west end of Timor, with fresh water and a beach that a ship can lie off in both monsoons, which is rare on this coast.

Sandalwood comes down to it from the interior along tracks the traders themselves do not walk. Everything specific known about this harbour is Portuguese and Dutch and three hundred years later (the campaign board). The Chinese notice of about 1225 names Ti-wu (read as Timor) for sandalwood.
