Kottar (Nagercoil)

The market town of the Nanjinad rice country behind the Cape, on the road between the Aramboly gap and the coast: rice, weaving and the road toll (board).

The campaign board says Venad holds it, as disputed ground between Venad and the Pandyas; we found no source that settles who collects on 1 January 1200.

Venad on the campaign board's account, under a Pandya claim

How things stand that morning

A market town on contested ground; the campaign board gives it to Venad.

Trade and crafts

Rice, weaving and the road toll (board); no figures

Places of note

  • Kottar (Nagercoil): market town of the Nanjinad rice country

Where the sources disagree

  • Board 'kottar-nagercoil' says Maravarman Kulasekhara takes the whole south including Kollam about 1275; that is later than 1 January 1200.

Evidence: One board note and the Venad page; the Wikipedia page for Nagercoil names Kottar as the old name and gives no history for 1200. The campaign board gives this place to the Hoysala region but the regional brief gives the ground to sit; no other sheet covers the campaign board id, so it is written here.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.
