Kollam

The great emporium of the Malabar south, on the Ashtamudi lake and the sea mouth at Thangasseri.

The Kollam year (375 in 1200) counts from a foundation of 825 (Wikipedia, Kollam). The Tharisapalli plates (849) record the Syrian Christian merchant guilds' privileges (Manigramam, Anjuvannam). Kollam trades pepper, ginger and cinnamon to the Gulf and the Chinese junks that call at it; the Venad kings take their share.
