Gilgit

The oasis town where the Gilgit and Hunza rivers meet the Indus road, the political centre of the Dard valleys when there is one.

It lies near the west edge of this sheet, about 60 km inside the frame. The Palola Shahi kings of the seventh and eighth centuries, devout Buddhists, are the last ruling line the sources document; the Trakhane of the late lists are placed in the fourteenth century. Nothing, no coin and no inscription, supports a ruler of 1200 (the campaign board says to name none).
