Civita

Gallura's capital and harbour on the deep gulf of Olbia, nearest of all Sardinian ports to Pisa and Genoa, rebuilt as a harbour from the later twelfth century.

It holds the judges' palace with its chapel of San Paolo and the cathedral of San Simplicio of the bishop of Civita (a Pisan suffragan since 1138). The name Terranova is later (Pisan period); 'Civita' is the name in 1200.
