Savu and Rote

Two small dry islands, Savu with Raijua and Rote with Ndao, in the open sea between Sumba and Timor, living off the lontar palm, which gives sugar, drink and thatch on ground that grows almost nothing else (board).

They are landfalls and watering stops on the southern crossing rather than markets, and Rote to the east of Savu is the last land before Timor (board). The later domains of Rote are known from the seventeenth century; nothing is dated for 1200 and no ruler can be named. The Nagarakretagama's list of 1365 has no place here that we could identify.
