Bengkulu and Rejang

The long west coast between Mukomuko and Kaur and the highland behind it (Rejang, Lebong, Kepahiang).

No source of 1200 gives it to any ruler, and the Palembang claim reaches the Lampung coast, not here, so it is shown as held by its own peoples. The Rejang are known later for their own customary law and an ancestral script (ulu), but the evidence is of later centuries and we do not read it back. The coast is a surf beach with river mouths and no harbour.

Whatever trade there is in gold, pepper or forest goods is not documented; the ports of the Minangkabau coast lie to the north. This province is the campaign board's silence made visible, not a described people.

On the map: Drawn on the modern regencies (kabupaten) that match the people's later homeland; the boundaries of 1200 are not known.
