Kawachi

A broad rice plain east of the Osaka bay between the Ikoma and the Kongō hills.

It was the home of the Kawachi Genji, the branch from which Yoritomo's house descends, whose base lay at Ishikawa in the south-east of the plain [not yet checked against the source]. The kokufu stood at Fujiidera. Hōryūji and Kōfukuji have estates on its edges, and Shitennōji's neighbours the Watanabe boatmen use its rivers. We know no constable named for 1200.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: The campaign board entry and recollection; no province-level source for 1200 was reachable.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.

On the map: Drawn as the old province from the modern units round the places named; the borders follow the units, not the 8th-century boundaries.
