Capital district

The eight fu in the lists do not include the plain of the Erhai itself; the capital Yangjumie stands outside them, and the Chinese Wikipedia says the lowest units, the dian, answered to the capital, the fu, the jun or the zhen.

We draw as the capital district the counties round the lake and its feeding valleys that the lists leave to no fu or zhen: Dali, Eryuan, Yangbi, Yunlong, Midu (Baiya), Xiangyun, Binchuan and Nanjian. This is an inference from the lists, not a stated unit. The eight fu, four jun, four zhen and thirty-seven bu are the structure that Yuan and Ming writers give the kingdom (the Yuan Yunnan zhilue and Dili zhi; Yang Shen's Dian zai ji, Ming; repeated by the Chinese Wikipedia, 大理国).

No contemporary Dali document lists them, and we found no governor named for 1200.

The lists put no fu over the capital; we treat the counties they leave out as the king's own ground (our inference).

Overlord

The Duan king; the Gao chancellor runs it.

How things stand that morning

The king's own country; no event dated.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: An inference from the Yuan and Ming lists, which name no unit for the capital's own ground.

On the map: Drawn from modern counties that the Chinese Wikipedia equates with the unit; the lists give a place, not a boundary, and the real extent in 1200 is not known.
