The Narwar-Chanderi march

The ridge forts of Narwar and Chanderi, the Pratihara and Kachchhapaghata ground between Gwalior and Malwa, are where Fakhr-i Mudabbir dates a Ghurid expedition into Malwa to 1199 or 1200, and where Minhaj says Aibak's province touches the frontier of Ujjain.

It reads as a raid, not a conquest: no Ghurid administration appears south of Gwalior afterwards. The Paramara side is anchored at Vidisha, Sarangpur and Raisen; the Ghurid at Gwalior.

Allies and rivals

The expedition of 1199 or 1200 (Fakhr-i Mudabbir only), perhaps in progress on the date.

How things stand that morning

Ghurid cavalry from Gwalior against Pratihara and Paramara forts; Paramara and Pratihara chiefs hold the walls.

Military

Ghurid: Gwalior. Others: Narwar (holder not pinned), Chanderi, Sarangpur, Vidisha.

Where the sources disagree

  • The Malwa "conquest" of 1199 to 1200 is read here as a raid; the brief and the campaign board both hold it open.

Evidence: One source for the raid; Minhaj for the frontier.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.

On the map: A hand-drawn estimate of a zone whose width is not recorded.
