Chambal ravines

Badlands cut fifty metres deep (board) into the soft soil along the Chambal, a maze of gullies that carries no road, feeds no army and hides any number of men.

Cavalry cannot deploy in it and a supply train has to go round. It is the moat that makes Ranthambore hard to reach at all, and it lies between Tughril's Ghurid command at Bayana and Govindaraja's fief at Ranthambore; the Karauli hills to the north are Mina and Jadon remnant ground. The belt is drawn because the ground cannot be held, not because a raid is documented.

Allies and rivals

Mina hill clans and the Jadon remnant against the Ghurid garrisons; no raid is documented.

How things stand that morning

Ground that produces nothing and is held by no one.

Military

Last campaign: no campaign is recorded in the sources we reached. Anchors: Bayana and Tahangarh (Tughril) to the north; Ranthambore and Khandar (Govindaraja) to the south-west; the Dhaulpur ford on the east.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: The campaign board's descriptions of the Chambal ravines and the Banas confluence; no raid source.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.

On the map: A rough polygon over ground that neither side can hold or farm; the edges are not fixed.
