The land between Koil and Kannauj and down the Yamuna to Etawah and Chandawar is where Jayachandra was killed in 1194 and where the Ghurid garrisons of Koil (1194), Chandawar (1194) and Kannauj (1198 to 1199) face the Dor, Gahadavala and local Rajput chiefs who still hold the villages.
No chronicle we read describes a campaign in the winter of 1199-1200; the last recorded fighting is the reduction of Kannauj and Chandawar a year earlier. The belt is a zone of tribute and punitive columns.
