The sand and scrub belt west of Hansi where Jatwan raised his revolt in 1192 (board; Nizami has the siege of Hansi in 1192, Firishta in 1203).
It carries some grazing and no revenue worth collecting, it cannot be garrisoned continuously, and a force that goes into it in the hot months does not come out in fighting condition. Bhatner is on its western edge, Tosham rises out of it, and the Ghurid garrisons at Hansi and Sirsa watch it.
Allies and rivals
Jat and Rajput herder-raiders, Bhati raiders from the south-west, against the Ghurid garrisons.
How things stand that morning
Quiet since Jatwan, so far as the sources we reached say.
Military
Last campaign: 1192 (Nizami 1992) or 1203 (Firishta): the revolt of Jatwan, ended at Bagar. Anchors: Hansi, Sirsa (Ghurid); Bhatner (Bhati country, allegiance undocumented); Tosham hill.
Where the sources disagree
Evidence: Wikipedia's Aibak article and the campaign board.
"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.
On the map: A rough polygon over ground that neither side can hold or farm; the edges are not fixed.
