The chancellor's chronicle of Alfonso VIII's reign, detailed from the 1190s. For 1199 and 1200 it gives the king's recovery after Alarcos, his war on Navarre while Sancho VII was away at the Almohad court, the siege and surrender of Vitoria in January 1200 and the taking of Alava and Guipuzcoa, the uneasy peace with Alfonso IX of Leon after the Berenguela marriage of 1197, and the Castilian court and bishops. Written by an insider a generation later, loyal to Alfonso VIII and his daughter Berenguela.
