Tossignano

Hill castle in the Santerno valley above Imola, ally of Bologna and Faenza against Imola, razed by the imperial side in May 1198 and resettled below as the Borgo.

The castle is rebuilt by the Bolognese only in 1256.

Tossignano had two consuls, Rolando Azzo and Gerardo, named in a pact with Bologna of 3 May 1181. In May 1198 it joined a Bolognese and Faentine army; the imperial forces under Markward of Annweiler took and razed the castle, deported many people to Fontanelice and left the place empty for four months. The survivors then settled on the right bank of the Santerno (the Borgo), and Bologna governed Tossignano through the thirteenth century; when Bologna's rule began is not dated.

Lord in 1200

Bolognese ally, ruined in 1198; whether Bologna governs it outright on 1 January 1200 is not pinned.

How things stand that morning

Ruined castle, people resettled in the Borgo; a Bolognese outpost facing Imola.
