Town · Contested ground · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Sambhar

The dynasty's first capital and the town it took its name from, on the southern shore of the great salt lake.

The Chahamanas were kings of Shakambhari for two centuries before Ajmer was built, and the goddess of the lake is their house deity. Ajmer's fall in 1192 left the salt country north of it with no defensible seat, and who takes the revenue here on 1 January 1200 is not recoverable.
