Khitan ruins on the Kherlen

The Liao (Khitan) built walled towns and forts along the Kherlen and in the Hulun Buir region in the tenth and eleventh centuries (the sites called Kherlen Bars in the archaeology of Dornod).

They fell to the Jin after 1125. In 1200 they are ruins that herders camp in or beside; Avraga, Chinggis Khan's later ordo on the Kherlen, is not yet. Which sites were in use that winter is not known; the marker is indicative only.
