Gavi

Castle and village on the Lemme where the Genoese road over the Bocchetta reaches the plain; the consuls of Alessandria swore fealty to the marquises of Gavi in the parish church in 1172, and Henry VI confirmed the castle and borgo to Genoa in fief on 30 May 1191.

Seized by Marquis Guido in 1198 with Tortonese help, recovered by Genoa's podestà [castle not pinned], and ceded entirely to Genoa in 1202.
