Cölln and Berlin

Not yet towns and not yet named: Cölln is first named in 1237 and Berlin in 1244 (town rights by 1246 at the latest).

In 1200 the Spree crossing between the Teltow and the Barnim lies in ground no prince is attested as holding; settlement at the crossing round 1200 is a matter for archaeology, not the written record. The Ascanian margraves will build the double town in the struggle for the Barnim in the 1230s.
