An ancient bishop's city on the Chiana marshes, emptied by the malaria of 1191; the county-diocese was split by the Patrimony's border after Henry V's donation of 1111.
At the end of the twelfth century Orvieto took it back and Perugians settled the eastern Chiugi. Orvieto, a town of the pope's Patrimony in Tuscany, has been under interdict since 1198 (campaign notes Part 5); drawn as contested until the Patrimony sheet rules.
