Chanderi is a fort town on the Betwa plateau north of Malwa and west of the Chandela country.
It is Pratihara (Parihar) ground, whose lords look to the Chandelas, the Paramaras and the Ghurids in turn. The earliest Muslim conquest is later; on 1 January 1200 it is nobody's sure possession.
