Ai Lao pass (Lao Bao)

The crossing from the Hiếu valley behind Cửa Việt into the Sê Pôn and so to the Mekong, the shortest line between the eastern sea and the great river anywhere on this coast.

Vietnamese records call it the Ai Lao road because it is how the Lao come to them (board). The gazetteer does not know it; the campaign board's coordinate was kept.

Where the sources disagree

Evidence: The campaign board entry note and a modern coordinate; nothing in our sources dates the place to 1200.

"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.
