Wehali, on the south coast of Timor in the Tetun-speaking Belu country, is in Timorese tradition the ritual centre of the island: its great lord (the Maromak Oan, 'child of God') is ritually passive and described as female, and an executive 'male' regent, the liurai, stands beside him; the south Tetun are matrilineal.
The dated record is much later: Pigafetta in 1522, Portuguese expeditions in 1642 and 1665, a Dutch contract of 1756. A Chinese notice of about 1225 already knows sandalwood from Ti-wu (read as Timor), so the trade is running in 1200, but nothing says who rules or whether Wehali exists as such. Use the titles with the label 'later tradition'.

- Ritual seniority over the small Timorese lords (tradition); no holdings known
How things stand that morning
Not attested. The sandalwood comes down from the interior through highland hands.
Places of note
- Laran (Wehali): Centre of Wehali in the south Tetun country (approximate).
Where the sources disagree
- The campaign board has no Wehali place. We add it to name the late tradition the brief asks for.
Evidence: Tradition and sources from 1522 and later.
"The campaign board" is OMNIA's working map. These notes record where its earlier claims were checked against the sources.
On the map: A disc at an approximate point; the Tetun country is drawn in the province record.
