Pomerelian castellans

Pomerelia, like the Polish duchies, is ruled through castle districts: each princely castle has a castellan who keeps it, raises its levy, takes the tolls in kind and holds its court.

For 1200 no castellan is named. The castles that served as district centres in 1200 or soon after are Gdańsk, Białogarda, Świecie, Lubiszewo and Tczew; Starogard was given away in 1198. Castellans of Gdańsk, Świecie, Tczew, Białogarda and others appear in 13th-century charters.
