The Łęczyca land, between the Bzura, the Ner and the upper Rawka, with its castle at Tum beside the great collegiate church (1161), is not Masovian in 1200.
Under Bolesław III's will it was the dower of his widow Salomea (to 1144); thereafter it was part of the senior province that went with Kraków, and Casimir II held the first recorded assembly of Polish lords and bishops here in 1180. en.wikipedia (Duchy of Łęczyca) calls it 'a part of the Seniorate Province' until Konrad made it a duchy about 1231. On 1 January 1200 it therefore follows Kraków: held by Mieszko III if he still holds Kraków under the 1198 agreement, or for Casimir's sons if the Kraków lords' expulsion of Mieszko in 1199 still stands. That is the krakow record's question.
The archbishop of Gniezno holds Uniejów and Łowicz on its edges and the bishop of Kujawy holds Wolbórz to the south (Church map records). No castellan is named for 1200.
Who he is
- Name
- castellan not named for 1199-1200; the land is the senior duke's: Mieszko III the Old, back in Kraków on the Kraków lords' terms by the reckoning followed in Kraków (Mieszko III) (or Casimir's sons' party if the Kraków lords' expulsion of 1199 still stands)

Overlord
the holder of the senior province of Kraków
What it holds
- The castle of Łęczyca at Tum
- The villages of the Łęczyca land
- The Bzura and Ner crossings on the roads from Kuyavia and Masovia to Sieradz and Kraków
How it was acquired
An office held at the duke's pleasure; the castellan keeps the castle, leads its levy, judges and collects the dues of the district.
Allies and rivals
The palatine and the other castellans; the great families of the district.
How things stand that morning
Held for the senior duke at Kraków. The krakow record (Kraków (Mieszko III)) has Mieszko III back in Kraków on the Kraków lords' terms that morning, so the Łęczyca land is his, held through a castellan not named for 1200; if the campaign rules that the Kraków lords' expulsion of 1199 still stands, it is held for Leszek's party instead.
Wealth
The district's dues in kind and services, the market and toll at the castle, and the duke's share of court fines.
Military
The castle levy of the district under the castellan; no numbers known.
Threats
- The war for Kraków: the land lies between Mieszko III's Greater Poland and Kuyavia and Masovia
What the year holds
What happened next, if nothing in play changes it. Each event carries what it depends on and what would stop it.
- 1202 (after this year)de.wikipedia has Konrad take Łęczyca (with Kuyavia and Sieradz) after Mieszko III's death on 13 March 1202.Depends on: Mieszko's death and a division among Casimir's sons Stopped by: Władysław Spindleshanks holding the senior province
Places of note
- Tum: castle and collegiate church of Łęczyca: Ducal castle and the Romanesque collegiate church (1161)
- Uniejów: Archbishop of Gniezno's castle on the Warta (Church map record)
Where the sources disagree
- de.wikipedia (Konrad I. von Masowien) makes Konrad duke in Kuyavia, Sieradz and Łęczyca from 1202; pl.wikipedia (Konrad I mazowiecki) gives Łęczyca with Sieradz to Konrad only in 1231; en.wikipedia (Łęczyca) lists Henry the Bearded as its holder 1228-1232 and Konrad from 1232/1234; en.wikipedia (Duchy of Łęczyca) says it was part of the Seniorate Province until Konrad created the duchy about 1231. This record follows the last, so on 1 January 1200 the land goes with Kraków (realm krakow). The GM may prefer to give it to Casimir's sons (realm masovia) if he rules that the 1198 bargain gave Mieszko only the Kraków land itself.
Evidence: The Łęczyca land's place in the senior province rests on en.wikipedia (Duchy of Łęczyca); other pages disagree (see notes). No officer of 1200 is named.
On the map: The line with Masovia (Sochaczew, Rawa, Gostynin), Kuyavia (Przedecz, Chodecz) and Greater Poland (Koło) follows the later Łęczyca voivodeship; the southern line with the Sieradz land (wlk or mlp) is drawn short of Piotrków and Wolbórz.
