The Giudicarie, the valleys west of Trent between the Adige and the Brescian mountains, are ruled through castle lords bound to keep their castles open to the bishop.
Castel Campo (first named 1163) is the da Campo's fief, and Stenico castle, the bishop's stronghold in the valley, is guarded by men like Bozone of Stenico, who in 1163 built a house in it and swore to keep it open to the bishop. The southern Giudicarie toward the Chiese (Storo, Lodrone) border the Brescian lands.
