Charters of the Teutonic Order

Prints the earliest documents of the German hospital at Acre founded in 1190 and turned into a military order in 1198: the papal bulls of 1196 to 1199, including Innocent III's confirmation of February 1199, the grants in Acre, Tyre and Cilicia, and the first European endowments. For 1200 it shows a very small order holding a hospital and a few houses, with a rule borrowed from the Temple and the Hospital. Thin for 1200 but the only record of the order's beginnings.
