The communes' own year lists. For 1200 they name the consuls or podestà of each city, record the wars of Milan against Cremona and Pavia, of Piacenza against Parma and Cremona, and the Verona factions of the Montecchi and the counts of San Bonifacio with Azzo d'Este and Ezzelino da Romano in play, along with floods, prices and building. Short and partisan, they are the only way to date commune politics in the year. Codagnellus's Piacenza annals (to 1235) give a fuller narrative.
