Annals of Ulster

The most reliable Irish annal for the north. Its 1200 entries cover the war for Connacht between Cathal Crobderg and Cathal Carrach, in which William de Burgh backed Carrach while John de Courcy and the Ui Neill backed Crobderg; the raids of the English of Meath and Ulster; the deaths of kings, bishops and abbots in Tir Eogain, Airgialla and Breifne; and the doings of Aed O Neill. Dated by the year of the Lord with the feria, so its chronology is the standard against which the others are corrected.
