Yao on the north-east shore of Lake Fitri is the later seat of the Bilala (Bulala) sultans.
The Bilala appear only in the fourteenth century, as rivals of the Sayfawa; for 1200 the lake was home to fishing and farming peoples (see Fitri and the Batha) and no ruler is recorded.
