Frontier town · The Samogitians · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Tverai

Tverai lies on the western edge of upper Samogitia, facing the Curonian land of Ceklis.

It is identified with Tviremet, the castle named in the Hypatian chronicle under 1251 where the Samogitian duke Vykintas held out against Mindaugas. In 1200 it is a hillfort district guarding the routes west to the coast; its state at that date is not pinned.
