Sabarimala (the forest shrine and its pilgrim track)

A forest shrine high in the hills at the head of the Pamba, reached only on foot through country with no settlement in it.

Its documented history is late and nothing fixes its condition in 1200. It matters because the pilgrim track from Chengannur and Pandalam through empty forest is a real route through the Ghat belt.
