The Karnata king, through his tarai officers
Who holds it
- Name
- The tract traditionally identified as Videha, the kingdom of Janaka and the birthplace of Sita. The identification is retrospective and the town is not here yet: Janakpur as a settlement is an eighteenth century foundation and its great temple is nineteenth, and no excavation has found a medieval town on the spot. What exists in 1200 is a stretch of plain with a Ramayana claim attached to it and pilgrims walking through. The Mithila schools of learning lie in the Karnata country to the south.
