The capital of the Ijebu, founded in tradition by a leader from Ife.
The great Eredo earthwork rings the country round it; if Darling's tenth- and eleventh-century dating is right, Ijebu-Ode is already the centre of a large polity on 1 January 1200, and if the newer dating of about 1400 is right, the town is smaller and the kingdom later.
