Hombori

The sandstone towers of the Hombori mountains (the Hombori Tondo) rise from the Gourma plains on the road between the Niger bend and the Bandiagara cliffs.

No written source mentions Hombori before the Songhay chronicles of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries; on 1 January 1200 its people are not known by name (later Songhay-speaking villages, with Kurumba and Tellem-related peoples to the south-west). Shown as a point.
