The great Oder castle that withstood Emperor Henry V in 1109, with a chapter of canons at St Mary's and a market settlement on the crossing.
It was briefly the seat of Bolesław's youngest brother Konrad (from 1177); Henry the heir was born here. No town law yet (the German-law town comes in the 1250s).
