Town · West Africa: the Sudan and Guinea · as at first light, 1 January 1200

Daboya

A village on the White Volta north-west of the later Tamale where salt was made from saline springs and earth; the salt went south and east.

Shinnie and Kense excavated its mounds and found a long sequence reaching back to the second millennium BC; the dating of the salt working for 1200 is not pinned in what we recall. On 1 January 1200 a village of the central savanna peoples, without a lord. Position approximate.
