Asantemanso

A forest settlement near Esumeja, south of the later Kumasi, where the Asante say the Aduana clan came out of the ground.

The Shinnies' excavations (from 1986) found it continuously inhabited since the ninth century, with a peak of occupation between 1200 and 1700 by radiocarbon; an older earthworks pottery style gives way there to the later Akan ware. On 1 January 1200 a living village of the forest farmers, at the start of its main period.
