A rock-hewn church about 70 km south-west of modern Addis Ababa, near the upper Awash, which tradition attributes to Lalibela's time.
It is the southernmost of the Ethiopian rock churches and a sign of Christian communities far south of the Zagwe provinces, among the forebears of the Soddo Gurage, some of whose churches are dated to the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Its date is not pinned.
