Werjih

Herders of the Awash valley below the Shewan escarpment.

The Shewa chronicle's entry for 1128 says that the Amhara fled from the land of the Werjih, 'then pastoralists in the Awash valley'; they reappear in the Christian chronicles of the fourteenth century as herders of the same country. Drawn in the middle Awash between the sultanate and the Afar, on thin evidence.
