Urhobo and Isoko

Edoid-speaking clans (the Urhobo groups such as Okpe, Agbon, Ughelli and Uvwie, and the Isoko) in the freshwater forest and swamp north of the mangroves.

Many clan traditions bring their founders from Benin 'in the time of the ogiso' or from Ijaw neighbours; none is dated. Each clan governs itself through its elders and age grades.
