The forest and farm-bush of the Sierra Leone interior, round Bo, Kenema, Moyamba and the later Kono country, held by small farming communities whose language in 1200 is uncertain.
Iron was in use in Sierra Leone by the ninth century and farming on the coast by the end of the tenth (Wikipedia: History of Sierra Leone). The Mende and their neighbours are later arrivals. Across the Liberian border the gui sheet takes up the Gola.
