Farming peoples of the savanna between the eastern foot of the Togo-Atakora hills and the Bariba country: the forerunners of the Tem round Sokodé, the Anii and the Yoruba-speaking Nago of Bassila, and the Yom and Lokpa round Djougou.
The chiefdoms of this country (the Tem chiefdom of the Mola, the Wangara trading town of Djougou) are seventeenth- and eighteenth-century creations. In 1200 these are village societies under earth priests and lineage heads.
