Northern Igbo

The Igbo village groups of the Nsukka and Udi uplands and the Awka country north of the Umueri towns: farmers, and the great iron smelters and smiths of the region (the slag fields of Opi and Lejja; the Awka smiths).

Each village group governs itself through its lineage elders, its title-holders and its earth priest; some received Nri's ritual agents, but none obeyed a king.
