Middle Benue south bank

The plains south of the Benue round the later Gboko and Katsina-Ala.

The Tiv, who dominate them today, came down from the hills of the south-east (Swem, Ibenda) and spread over the plain in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (Bohannan), so they are not here in 1200. The earlier inhabitants are not known by name; Jukun-related and Idomoid-speaking communities are the likeliest.
