Fulbe of the Termes

The Fulbe who founded the Macina chiefdom came there about 1400, from the Termes south of the Hodh (al-Sa'di; Stewart).

On 1 January 1200 Macina has no Fulbe chiefdom. Fulbe herders may already range the Sahel of the Termes and the Kingui among the Soninke, as clients of the kings of Diara and Ghana; this is a probability, not an attested fact.

Where the sources disagree

  • The assignment asks for the Fulbe of Macina; on the evidence they arrive there about 1400, so they are drawn in their earlier homeland.

Evidence: Inferred backwards from the founding of the Macina chiefdom about 1400.

On the map: Speculative placement.
